How to fix duplicate title tags
Duplicate titles are a template problem wearing a content problem's clothes.

When several pages share a title, search engines have to guess which one answers a query — and often rewrite the title themselves, which removes the one piece of search-result copy you control.
Duplicates almost always come from a template, so the fix is a pattern change plus hand-writing the handful of pages that earn the money.
What usually causes it
A pattern with too few variables
"{{ product.title }} | Shop" gives every product a title that differs by one phrase. Technically unique, functionally identical, and it competes with itself.
Two plugins writing a title each
A theme and an SEO plugin both output one. The page has two title tags, search engines pick one, and the dashboard preview shows the other.
Archive pages inheriting the blog title
Tag, category, author and paginated pages that all say "Blog | Company". Dozens of pages, one title, none of them ranking.
Pagination with no page number
Page 2 and page 5 of a category sharing page 1's title is the most common source of duplicates on a catalogue site, and the easiest to fix.
Parameters creating copies of one page
?utm_source=, ?sort= and session parameters produce URLs that are the same page with the same title. A self-referencing canonical settles it; without one, the duplicates are real as far as a search engine is concerned.
How to fix it
Check the page above
The title tag checker reads the live page: whether a title exists, whether there is more than one, its length, and whether it simply repeats the H1.
Crawl to see the pattern
One page cannot tell you whether it is a duplicate. A crawl groups identical titles so you can see whether it is two pages or two hundred, and which template made them.
Fix the template first
Add the variables that make the title genuinely different — category, location, variant, page number. One change usually resolves most of the list.
Hand-write the pages that earn money
Homepage, pricing, top categories and top posts deserve a title written for the person searching rather than assembled from fields.
Add page numbers to paginated titles
"Running shoes — page 2" is unique, honest, and stops the whole paginated set competing with itself.
