Client reporting
Why your clients ignore your SEO reports

Every agency that sells SEO eventually hits the same wall. You do good work, you send a monthly report, and the client does not read it. Then at renewal they ask what they have been paying for.
The instinct is to add more to the report. More charts, more metrics, more pages. That makes it worse.
The report is not for you
Here is the test. Pick up last month's report for your biggest client and read the first page as though you are them: a person who runs a business, has forty minutes of unbooked time this week, and does not know what a canonical tag is.
Can they tell, in ten seconds, whether things got better or worse? Can they tell what you want them to do next?
Most reports fail both.
A report that requires you to be in the room is not a report. It is a slide deck.
Three things that actually change the answer
One number, tracked the same way every month. Not seventeen metrics. One. It does not hugely matter which number, as long as the method never changes, because what the client is really asking is "is this going in the right direction".
A short list, not a complete list. Two hundred findings is an honest description of a crawl and a useless instruction. Five is a month of work for a small business. Pick the five.
A reason attached to each one. "Missing meta descriptions on 24 pages" is a finding. "Twenty-four pages have no description in Google, so your listing shows a random sentence instead of a reason to click" is something a business owner can decide about.
What this looks like in practice
Nothing in that list requires new data. It requires you to do the translation step that most tools skip — the step where someone who understands both the crawl and the business decides what matters.
That translation is the actual job. Everything upstream of it is plumbing.
The uncomfortable part
If your monthly report is a PDF export from a crawler with your logo on the cover, the client is right to ignore it. It was not written for them.
The fix is not more effort. It is a different output.

We run a technical SEO agency and built AuditOpti because we were writing this report by hand every month. If something here is wrong, we'd like to know.
